Holt Public Schools Selected Hal Heard III as the Next Superintendent

The Holt Public Schools Board of Education has selected Hal Heard III as the district’s next superintendent.

Mr. Heard brings more than 20 years of progressive educational leadership experience, along with a strong commitment to cultural competence, ethical leadership, and collaboration. He began his career as a 7th grade Geography and World History teacher and has since served in a variety of leadership roles with Plymouth-Canton Community Schools over the past 13 years. His experience includes positions as Executive Director of Student Services, Executive Director of High School Education, and high school principal.

Consistent with Holt Public Schools’ values, the selection process was inclusive and community-driven. Selection criteria were developed based on input gathered through a district-wide online survey. Community members also had opportunities to provide direct feedback to Board of Education members during both preliminary and final in-person candidate interviews. In addition, administrators, staff, students, parents, and guardians contributed input through a series of structured engagement sessions.

The Board of Education extends its sincere appreciation to all members of the Holt community for their participation and support throughout this important process.

The Board and Mr. Heard are currently finalizing contract negotiations. He is expected to officially assume the role of superintendent no later than August 1, 2026.
